Privacy Policy

The short version: we collect nothing. The long version is below — it's still short.

Effective: July 2026 · Applies to RoughCut for macOS (com.gmtm.RoughCut)

What we collect /

Nothing. RoughCut has no user accounts, no analytics, no telemetry, and no servers operated by the developer. We never see your videos, transcripts, API keys, or usage.

What stays on your Mac /

  • Your video and audio files — the app references them in place; it does not copy or upload them.
  • Speech-to-text runs entirely on your Mac using a locally downloaded model.
  • Transcripts, cut decisions, and exported FCPXML files live in the app's private container.
  • Your API keys are stored in the macOS Keychain, encrypted by the system.

What leaves your Mac — only at your direction, with your own keys /

  • AI editing pass (optional): if you add your own Google Gemini or OpenAI API key, the app sends the transcript text (words and timestamps — never audio or video) directly to that provider to identify bad takes. This traffic goes straight from your Mac to the provider under your account and their privacy terms (Google, OpenAI). Without a key, the app performs silence-only cutting with no network use.
  • Speech model download (one-time): the app downloads its transcription model from Hugging Face's public CDN. This is a plain file download.
  • Langfuse tracing (off by default): advanced users may connect their own Langfuse project to trace their own runs. Disabled unless you enable it with your own keys.

Purchases /

The one-time unlock is processed entirely by Apple through the Mac App Store. We receive no personal information about you from the transaction.

Children's privacy /

RoughCut is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone.

Changes /

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this URL with a new effective date. Since the app collects nothing, changes would only ever describe new optional, user-initiated integrations.
